My Story…
Hello there, my name is Jessica, a mother of two boys age 6 & 3. As a breastfeeding counsellor, my journey has been shaped by my own experiences my sons, each of whom presented unique challenges along the way.
With my first son Myles, he struggled with slow weight gain and a late diagnosis of tongue tie. I suffered with soreness & the fear of having to give up feeding with my lack of knowledge at the time with his issues. We later also had a diagnosis of Cow's Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA), which again was very overwhelming and I struggled with how I would navigate through my breastfeeding journey. At the time, there was little support available, and I often felt isolated and unsure of where to turn for help, But in the end I managed to exclusively breastfeed Myles until he turned 2.
When I had my second son Malakai, we faced similar struggles with tongue tie, latch issues, and painful nipples. Once again, I found myself searching for guidance, unsure of where to find the support I desperately needed. He too had a mild CMPA which we managed to overcome when he started weaning. Malakai was a ‘Milk Monster’ who fed until he was also 2 years old.
These personal challenges are what inspired me to become a breastfeeding counsellor. I now aim to provide the support, knowledge, and empathy that I wish I had during those difficult times. My goal is to help other parents navigate the often overwhelming journey of breastfeeding with confidence and compassion, knowing they are never alone.
